The Warehouse & Logistics Manager is responsible for the overall management and daily operation of the company's warehouse, shipping, receiving, and internal material movement activities. This position ensures that materials and finished products are received, stored, handled, and shipped accurately, safely, efficiently, and on schedule. The position provides leadership to warehouse and shipping personnel, coordinates transportation, maintains warehouse organization and inventory accuracy, and works closely with Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, Sales, and Operations to support production and customer delivery requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

This is a working leadership role; the position is expected to spend approximately 30-40% of time on hands-on warehouse/shipping tasks (picking, packing, crating, labeling, loading) and 60-70% on vendor management, administration, supervisory and planning duties. 

  • Manage the daily operation of the warehouse, shipping, receiving, and material-handling functions.

  • Supervise, direct, and coordinate warehouse and shipping personnel; assign daily work and establish priorities.

  • Coordinate inbound and outbound freight, including carrier scheduling, shipping documentation, bills of lading, packing lists, and labels.

  • Prepare import/export shipping documentation under the direction of Sales and/or the company's customs broker or freight forwarder, including commercial invoices, certificates of origin, packing lists, and shipment data for HTS classification and EEI/AES filing; does not make classification or export-licensing determinations.

  • Prepare military-required packaging markings and labels for DLA and other government/defense shipments per contract and MIL-STD requirements.

  • Ensure customer orders are accurately packed, identified, and prepared for shipment according to established requirements.

  • Coordinate shipment priorities with Manufacturing, Sales, and Operations based on customer requirements and production schedules.

  • Monitor shipments and address transportation delays, damages, shortages, discrepancies, and other logistics issues.

  • Oversee receiving of incoming materials, supplies, and equipment and ensure accurate documentation and system transactions.

  • Maintain accurate records of material movement and support inventory accuracy through proper receiving, storage, identification, and handling practices.

  • Oversee the safe movement of raw materials, work-in-process, finished goods, and other materials throughout the facility.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse and shipping environment; champion 6S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, Safety) practices and lead projects to improve material flow and layout efficiency.

  • Monitor department performance metrics such as shipping accuracy, on-time shipments, receiving accuracy, inventory accuracy, freight costs, and order turnaround time.

  • Also responsible for: coordinating inbound and outbound transfers between company locations; maintaining freight carrier and logistics-provider relationships; coordinating with Purchasing and Quality on receiving discrepancies; conducting cycle counts and inventory investigations; ensuring forklift and material-handling equipment safety and operator certifications; and developing department procedures and work instructions.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous experience in warehouse, shipping, receiving, logistics, manufacturing, or material management required.

  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.

  • Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

  • Working knowledge of shipping documentation, freight coordination, warehouse practices, and inventory control.

  • Forklift certification required or ability to obtain certification.

  • Also requires: a high school diploma or equivalent (additional education or training in logistics, supply chain, or business preferred); the ability to prioritize multiple activities in a changing manufacturing environment; basic to intermediate computer skills, including ERP/data-entry systems, email, and standard office software; the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English; and the ability to work independently with limited supervision while maintaining accountability for department performance.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry materials up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.

  • Ability to safely work around moving machinery, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment.

  • Also requires regularly standing and walking throughout the facility, and the ability to bend, twist, reach, climb, and perform repetitive movements as required.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing and warehouse environment with moving machinery and material-handling equipment.

  • Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.

  • Travel to the Rochester, NY (Lyell) location is required approximately 1 day per week.

  • Also involves exposure to moderate  noise levels and airborne fibers, dust, and other manufacturing-related particulates, plus overtime or schedule adjustments as operational needs require.
